First Time Home Buyers

Buying a home for the first time is for some people an overwhelming experience, for some a confusing process and for some a joyful event. I believe that it should be a pleasant adventure for everyone. And that is why I pay extra attention to first time buyers. I spend the time to educate them, and work with them closely throughout the home buying process.

I sometimes joke that my role is “to serve and protect”. But it’s not a joke; I believe that is my job. Seeing the excitement of someone who has just purchased their first home gives me great joy and satisfaction.

A home purchase is a complicated transaction that is greatly simplified by a knowledgeable and detail oriented person. I take care of all the details from the first day until even after the purchase has been completed so you don’t have to worry about a thing!

View many homes

I really enjoy working with first time buyers. Approximately half of my buyer clients are buying a home for the first time.  On average, they usually want to see more homes than someone who has purchased a home before. If they don’t, I try to make sure they do. A first time buyer should, even more so than a repeat buyer,  be confident and comfortable about their home choice. There is something about people’s first real estate experience that stays with them forever.

Understand the process

First time home buyers often have different questions and concerns than a repeat buyer would. Questions about the transaction process, things one should look for in a property, and ways to deal with details after a purchase is completed. I find it important to ensure that as a first time buyer you are familiar with all these things.

Get an honest opinion

But I think, even more important is the fact that I will share with you my honest opinion about a property. If I think there is something wrong, I will tell you. If I don’t think it is the best property for your needs, I will tell you. It is not my job to tell you what to buy, that’s your decision. But it is my duty to tell you what I honestly think.

I have seen hundreds and hundreds of properties throughout my career in all sorts of price ranges and conditions. I have purchased and extensively renovated a few myself. I’ve been very hands-on so I tend to notice things.

Don’t rush until you’re ready

Obviously I once was a first time buyer myself. I was lucky to have a good agent help me at the time. What I appreciated was that I was not rushed, so it is important for me that first time buyers don’t rush and always feel very comfortable with what they are buying.

Buying a home is exciting!
